In the north of Spain, the principality of Asturias is an industrialized region similar in many ways to other areas in northern Europe. Its impressive mountains are the first landmark of the Old World seen from the Atlantic Ocean: the "Picos de Europa". Its 345 kms. long coast shelters secluded beaches and picturesque fishing harbours. Its administrative capital is Oviedo, its maritime and tourist capital Gijón.
Gijón with 2,000 years of history is conditioned by the sea and the industry. It boasts of archaelogical findings, parks, museums and sports facilities and is deservedly proud of a hearty attitude, great warmth and sense of hospitality.
Gijón bursts with special events all the year round: the "romerías", -popular gatherings in the rural areas-, the International Horse Jumping Tournament, the Film Festival, the International Trade Show, the day of Asturias, the International Youth Encounters... In the words of the Town Council, Gijón is a permanent holiday.

La Academia is located in a quiet area of the town centre five minutes away from the beach.
The communicative method includes oral and written comprehension exercises, speaking, composition and grammar.
The tuition is conducted almost exclusively on an individual basis and the courses are flexible as corresponds to individual teaching.
Nevertheless, a group course with two or three students might be arranged provided the participants have a similar level of Spanish.

Full board accomodation at a local Spanish family amounts to 24,000 ptas. a week and hotel lodging can also be arranged.

NOTE: Most of the tourists who visit Gijón come from other Spanish regions; therefore it is unlikely to hear foreign languages in the streets.
